In case you have not noticed apart from loving fine fragrances like Chanel, Dior, Gucci, Issey Miyake, Chopard, Bvlgari, I could go on forever here I absolutely love Tom Ford Fragrances I think they are just divine and the thing I love most about his fragrances is that you don’t need to use much at all. When Tom Ford began to make fragrances he wanted them to be lasting long after the person wearing the fragrance had already left the room. Usually when I like a designer I like to know about them as much as I can so I can understand them. So before I go into the Tom Ford Fragrances that I just love and I think everyone should have lets look at who Tom Ford is!
Thomas Carlyle Ford was born on the 27thof August 1961 making him a life path 7. His net worth is $200 million. He is an American designer, film director, screenwriter and film producer. He was the Creative Designer for Gucci from 1990 – 2004 and if it wasn’t for Tom Ford Gucci would have never survived. Creative designer for YSL from 1999 – 2004. From 2004 he began to work on his own brand and has been a huge success and rightly so as he is an extremely talented man.
One of my favourite stories about Tom Ford is when he wanted to get a job in fashion after he had graduate and he kept calling American designer Cathy Hardwick everyday for a month hoping to get a job in her sportswear company. She eventually agreed to interview him. She later recalled the incident: “I had every intention of giving him no hope. I asked him who his favourite designers were. He said “Armani and Chanel” Months later she asked him why he said that and he said “Because you were wearing something Armani” Tom Ford worked for her for two years. I love his quotes one of my favourites is this one
“I do struggle because I’m attracted to beautiful things, yet at the same time I am actually very aware, in some sense, of their lack of value and that the most important things in life are your connections to other people”
I still love his sense of style and I love how humble he is and I honestly think he is so incredibly talented.
Each Tom Ford fragrance has been inspired by fragrance’s glamorous past – he uses the most precious ingredients to create a scent of supreme sophistication. I love how he used my much loved “Oud” but he does it with perfection, I also love how he uses Sandalwood but the way he combines his scent to me is intoxicating I could spend days just inhaling his fragrances like it’s oxygen. Tom Ford has said himself about fragrances “You attach your own associations to them based on your past experiences. When I think of vetiver as an ingredient I think of a lot of men I have known over the years who wore it because it is such a timeless man’s fragrance, and there are certain older iconic scents built around it that are very familiar to me. But if you’re 20 today and your girlfriend wears Grey Vetiver, which many woman say they want to do, then when you’re 40 or 50 you’ll close your eyes and remember her. So it’s impossible to pinpoint. Meanwhile about 30% of people who wear Black Orchid are men – it goes both ways” Scent is incredibly close to Tom Ford’s heart as it is to mine and I think this is why I love him! He also once said that scent is more important than clothes and this is something I have always said myself!
Now to the Fragrances of his that I absolutely love well my top three anyway
Black Orchid – the very first time I fell in love with this fragrance a friend of mine smelt it and said when they smelt it they thought of me so I had to go out and try it and it has been a favourite of mine ever since! “Luxurous and sensual fragrance of rich dark accords and an alluring potion of black orchids, spice as it makes an unforgettable statement”
White Patchouli – launched in 2008 and not as popular as Black Orchid but every time I wear it people ask me what it is that I am wearing. It is described as “With it’s sensuous heart of patchouli Tom Ford white patchouli is surrounded by sleek wood notes with luxurious elegant white flowers. This modern fragrance with retro-classic influence is a sophisticated interpretation of bohemina chic.”
Santal Blush –Is a mesmerizing spicy woody oriental. A textured fusion of creamy sandalwood and exotic eastern spices is enhanced with intoxicating florals and sumptuous woods to create soft, naked glamour with a mysterious spirit of modern earthiness.
